Dear Jazz Menagerie fans, we’ve been having a fine autumn. It was great to be back at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford last week – and always a treat to have Alyn Shipton join us on bass. We’ve also been keeping our hand in the corporate scene with recent gigs for international law firm Weil … [Read more…]
Fine weather is not normally taken for granted in England, but so far this summer we’ve enjoyed some very fine gigs al fresco. Yesterday afternoon we had a perfect boat trip on the Thames. We’ve performed recently in shady college quads and in several open marquees. We did our French thing for Bastille Day, performed … [Read more…]
Great to play at the Ashmolean Museum’s rooftop restaurant last night – a lovely space, especially on a warm summer’s evening. It was especially nice to have Alyn Shipton on double bass (also known as BBC Radio 3 Jazz presenter) and to be playing to a full house. More like this, please.
We had a very enjoyable quartet gig this week at the Three Pigeons, Milton Common, Oxfordshire. Always good to play to a listening audience of jazz fans.
Nice to be back at Oriel College yesterday for their annual alumni afternoon tea.
Had a very nice New Year’s Eve at the Chequers in deepest Hertfordshire. Big thanks to Martin for booking the band again – also for feeding us so well! We’ve been kept busy with private parties – a 21st birthday party, works parties for Oxford University Press & the staff of JR hospital intensive care … [Read more…]
Getting a bit behind with the blogging! Suffice to say Jazz Menagerie had another fine summer of enjoyable gigs. Highlights include a jazz evening in a Cotswolds village hall, a surprisingly pleasant wake party in Oxfordshire, a number of Oxford college garden parties and a sunny outdoor wedding party in Hertfordshire. We’re now heading for … [Read more…]
It was good to dust off the French song book last week. Friday was of course Bastille Day so it was out with the Piaf and Charles Trenet and the Gypsy Jazz guitar- only space for a duo. Merci to the staff at the George Street Social in Oxford for having us play – vive … [Read more…]
We very much enjoyed taking part in a brilliant gig celebrating the centenary of Ella Fitzgerald on Wednesday. Alison Bentley sang a selection of some the songs Ella sang so well, including Midnight Sun, Autumn Leaves and What is This Thing Called Love? https://www.facebook.com/cahootsjazzcollective/
Great to be back at The Manor House Hotel, Castle Combe, Wiltshire this Christmas. It was the fifth year in a row we’ve performed there – a really quaint old hotel. Always a treat to play there and the quintet were on excellent form. For New Year’s Eve it was up to Buckinghamshire where we … [Read more…]
